Artwork & Design

Think carefully about how you want the finished product to look, and give us as much information as you can about the position and colours of all objects, pictures, logos and text. A simple, clear message will generally be more effective than a complicated one. We prefer digital images in PC format via email as an attachment, or on a floppy disk, 100 MB Zip cartridges or CD.

Be aware that the colours you see on your computer monitor are the result of your particular drawing/paint programme / computer processor / available memory / graphics card / monitor set-up, etc., and will probably look different on other systems, and when printed. We use the Pantone Colour Reference system to ensure the printed colours are as intended.

Spot Colour Printing

We prefer vector images such as CorelDraw CDR files (to v10), Illustrator AI (up to CS2) or editable (vector) EPS files, as these allow editing and re-scaling without image degradation, and easy colour separation, but we can accept most standard formats. As a general rule, halftones and gradient fills should be avoided with spot colour screen printing, due to the low print resolutions of the screens. It is useful also to send the image in a second format, such as a jpg file, to allow us to cross-check the layout.

Word, Publisher and Powerpoint files should be avoided.

If a particular font is required, either supply the PC font file (*.ttf), or convert the text to curves/outlines. If the design is in Quark Express, either PC or Macintosh, save the file as an eps file, open the eps file in Illustrator, then convert all text to outlines, ensure any bitmaps are embedded, and re-save in eps format (up to CS2). This renders the file platform-independent and avoids ‘missing fonts’ issues.

Any special colours required should either have the Pantone Colour Reference supplied, or a suitable colour sample to allow us to colour match.

Any images to be reproduced that are supplied to us as printed hard copy should be printed as colour separations. They should be a strong, black print on white paper, at 600 dpi or better. Remember that the final print cannot be better than your original.

Full Colour Printing

Images for full colour / 4 process colour (CMYK)(Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK) printing should be saved as *.tif files at 300 dpi or better, and preferably compressed using ‘Zip’ or similar techniques, or Hi-Res pdf files. We can accept *.jpg files instead of *.tif files, but be aware that some sharpness and detail in the image can be lost if the compression setting during the saving process is set too high. Colour gamutsAny special colours required should either have the Pantone Colour Reference, the CMYK setting or a suitable colour sample supplied, to allow us to colour match as close as possible.
It’s usually better to design direct into CMYK colour mode, or at least to convert on-screen RGB designs into CMYK. The colour gamuts (ranges) of RGB (Red-Green-Blue) and the Pantone system are much greater than the CMYK range, and this will avoid disappointment when receiving full colour printed material. The adjacent picture shows the relative colour gamuts.

Pricing

All prices shown are in UK Pounds Sterling (ukp).

All personalised product prices include a one colour/one position print, unless otherwise stated, but not origination/screen/set-up costs, carriage or VAT. Origination costs are usually £30.00 – £35.00 for screen or pad printing, and £55.00 – £65.00 for embroidery designs up to 6000 stitches. Repeat orders normally have reduced origination costs. Prices shown are guide prices related to the quantities stated, and are subject to sight of the artwork. Prices for other quantities are available on request, but smaller quantities may be subject to a minimum order charge.  Cancellation of an order may result in a cancellation charge, depending on the amount of work completed at the time of cancellation. We issue a Proforma Invoice and request full payment before work can begin, unless prior arrangements have been agreed. We can accept payment by credit card via Paypal, but we have to apply a 4% handling fee.

Delivery

Delivery will normally be made 10/15 working days from full and final instructions to proceed, approval of artwork, and receipt of payment. Fastrack arrangements for a quicker turnaround may be possible, but there is usually a surcharge for this service, due to the extra work involved. Delivery of diaries and calendars may be between 6 and 8 weeks, and should be ordered by the middle of October to ensure receipt before Christmas. Prices shown are exclusive of any delivery charges. Deliveries to addresses outside the UK mainland will be charged at cost, or collection may be arranged.

Warranties & Liabilities

If we should supply you with faulty work due to an error or oversight on our part, we will either reprint the items free of charge for you, or refund any payments made for those items, at our discretion, on the return of the faulty goods. All prices and specifications listed are subject to change without notice. In the event of a material price change, orders already taken will be supplied at the agreed prices.

If a product becomes unavailable, we will offer the nearest equivalent product, but allow the cancellation of the order with no penalty if the alternative product is not acceptable to you. No liability is accepted for delays or non-deliveries caused by circumstances beyond our control. The use of company logos in our advertising material, and on this website, does not indicate that the products have been supplied to, or endorsed by, the companies whose names and logos have been used. The printing of such is a guide to position and effect only.
